A global initiative introducing art beyond borders

The international art project  “See The Big Picture” was started in September 2015 in Vordernberg, Austria. This active initiative introduces the idea of an endless road of art pieces connected to each other by their corners in order to question the man-made barriers and distinctions that, despite their fatal nature for human life, remain episodic for the world of art.

“See The Big Picture” introduces works of art by established artists - side by side with those of aspiring talents and refugee voices. During its first year, the project attracted participants from more than 20 countries and from all continents.

Many participants are working on their pieces at the moment and artists from all over the world are invited to join. Get to know our artists and view their part of the picture at our  ONLINE GALLERY.

Don't hesitate to contact us if you would like to join the initiative as an artist, host the “Big Picture” for an open exhibition or support the project in any form. Feel free to take a look at our NEWS BLOG and follow us on  FACEBOOK and INSTAGRAM to get the latest news.

On the idea of the "Big Picture"

In the bible Cain slew his brother Abel and was cast aside into the darkness. He became a wandering ghost looking for forgiveness, purpose and a way home. Since then we are born into this world paying for the sins of someone else’s past. We are born innocent, pure, free and unstained by sin – perfect creatures. The reality of the world that we are born into is that the geographical position of our birth as well as the race, creed and colour of our nativity become the things that make or break our lives.

If we are lucky we will be fed, cherished, educated and protected by our parents and our social system. This gives us every chance to be creative and to achieve. But here too the people are unhappy and without orientation. We know peace and prosperity and still feel lost, because we have so much to choose from. Only a few know the way to happiness. We in the west are taught that the only important forms of success are money and the elevation of our social status. Our whole life is built up around material achievement. Many are broken by this ignorant claim and are trapped in a hell of its own by alcohol, drugs, obesity, depression and sheer lack of purpose in life.

Many others, in fact a majority of people are born into poverty, starvation, war and sickness. This blight on the soul of humanity is steered by a system that needs the poor to be keepers of the rich, a system that poisons the soil and the bodies and minds of the citizens of this world and has been doing so since time began. We need to “see the big picture” and try to bring some light into the dark places, including the darkness that slumbers in our own souls. I am stranger to none of the desires of humanity and I too am looking for my way home.

"We need to “see the big picture”

and try to bring some light

into the dark places."

“See The Big Picture” is a concept that I have carried in my heart throughout my life. I have never painted a picture, but am constantly amazed by the works of art I see on my travels and even in the small alpine village where I live. Artists sometimes feel the change in society much earlier and more profound than politicians or scholars. Most of us can only see a small part of a gigantic puzzle, but they can feel the fabric of change and also have the creative ability to place colour, music or words on this feeling.

This project is an open invitation to all artists to donate a painting and participate in a global project, to show your side of the story and join with many others in creating a huge, colourful and perhaps historical memorial to our times. Many have already contributed, from established artists from Guatemala, Austria and Ireland to refugees from Afghanistan, Iraq and Georgia. This is just the beginning and all artists are welcome to join the initiative. There is no censorship on the donated artwork except its physical size. Each artist will be presented on the website as the artwork arrives.

"Artists feel the change in society."

The idea is to get artists from every country in the world to donate a painting to the project. The entire piece of art belongs to all of us. My job will be to make this idea and project popular and try to send the artworks to exhibitions in prominent places, such as houses of parliament, embassies and places of prayer and worship.

I will work on raising funds to send canvases to the artists in poorer counties and pick up the costs of framing and shipment etc. for the works they would wish to donate. Each artist owns the donated artwork, but promises to leave it in my trust until we all decide what to do with any funds raised by the sale of the paintings. Each work is just a part of the big picture and when we decide what to do with the end result of this project then we will do this together.

I look forward to hearing from all of you who have the horizon to “see the big picture”. I hope that in the days, weeks, months and years ahead we will create something unique to leave for future generations. All we need is you, your time and your idealism. Please spread the word and get your friends involved. In the end we are all one.

"In the end we are all one."
